Kerstin Sandell

Associate professor

I am a teacher and researcher at the Department of Gender Studies since 2007. My main research area is within feminist science studies. I have explored medical practice from the vantage point of questioning the boundaries between the normal and the pathological through several research projects. I am inspired by Donna Haraway, and have a special interest in how bodies are lived, experienced and formed within medicine. I also have a vested interest in feminist theory and enjoy working in the tradition of feminist ethnography. I am now moving into the field of studying Big Science in the form of the European Spallation Source.

Current research

I currently work in the project After the success with the new generation antidepressants: Experiences, practices, discourses and changes in the self is financed by Riksbankens jubileumsfond 2010-2015. In this project I work in collaboration with Shai Mulinari, Anna Bredström and Marianne Winther Jørgensen.

I also do research on New Big Science in three different but related projects:

Big science in the knowledge society: The heterogeneous engineering of the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden.  Funded by Swedish Research Council, 2013-2016. In this project I work with Olof Hallonsten (project leader) and Helena Pettersson.

The Rise of the New Big Science: Opportunities and challenges for nations, universities and science financed by Stiftelsen Marcus och Amalia Wallenbergs minnesfond 2015-2018. Project leader Thomas Kaiserfeld, participants Mats Benner and Katherine Harrison.

I am coordinator for the interdisciplinary project Exploring challenges for New Big Science: The realization of ESS and MAX IV in Lund at the Pufendorf institute the academic year of 2014/15 (
