Mapping antipreneurship within the global anti-gender project
Abstract
In the context of continued anti-gender mobilisation, antipreneurship offers a useful lens to conceptualise actors to this global project. Antipreneurship is a mode of behaviour wherein actors work to defend status quo norms against efforts to induce norm change. In the context of sustained pushback against gender and sexual equality norms, antipreneurship offers a lens to understand how these standards are contested while stereotypical gender roles and exclusive heteronormative values are defended. The production and promotion of such alternative gender agendas have significant and far-reaching consequences and are gaining rapid momentum.
Drawing on insights from a decade of research on anti-gender mobilisation, this talk traces the growing influence of some of the key actors spearheading contemporary contestations of gender equality. It examines their evolving strategies, shifting objectives, and emerging patterns of organising, illustrating how antipreneurial dynamics impact the global landscape of gender politics.

The Seminar Series
The Gender Studies Seminar Series invites researchers to share their insight on key issues for gendered and sexualized lives and knowledges, and to engage in critical discussions about the development of gender studies as an interdisciplinary and intersectional research field. Bringing together scholars from various research fields and theoretical traditions, this seminar series offers a platform for critical reflexions and new insights.
