Background
I hold a PhD in Political Science and an MA in Gender Studies, both from University College London. Prior to joining the Department of Gender Studies at Lund in 2023, I served as Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in the Politics of Gender at Newcastle University.
My research concerns the political representation of intersectionally marginalized groups, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods. I also consult internationally on gender issues for clients including UN Women.

Current research and teaching
I am currently Co-PI on three projects. Firstly (with Ashlee Christoffersen, Simon Fraser University, and Ceri Fowler, Manchester University) I am investigating relationship between equality NGO’s and government ministers, with a focus on the intersectional effects of race and gender. We are analysing a newly-available dataset of 74,000 meetings between UK government ministers and external organisations. Secondly, (with Shardia Briscoe Palmer, Nottingham University) I am considering the ways in which Black masculinities are constituted within parliamentary debates, and the substantive effects of these representations. We are conducting a quantitative and qualitative textual analysis of an original dataset of constitutive representations of Black men, identified from over 2.1 million speeches in UK House of Commons debates. Thirdly, (with Neema Begum, Nottingham University), I am analyzing how political candidates and community activists experienced structural inequalities in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using an intersectional and institutional feminist framework, we are interpreting 44 interviews with political candidates and community activists campaigning across the UK during 2020 and 2021.
I contribute to teaching qualitative and qualitative research methods, as well as courses on Gender, Migration and Citizenship; Gender, Class, Sexuality and Ethnicity; and Gender and the Nation in Europe.
